Walking the walk, talking the talk; Green Heart Director installs his own renewable system
In keeping with putting your money where your mouth is, Mike Eyre has recently finished installing a Green Heart heating system within his own property in Lymington, Hampshire.Mike replaced the existing water cylinder with a Gledhill Torrent 200RE thermal store and connected it to 2 SCHOTT evacuated tube collectors and a Clearview 650 wood-burning stove. The Torrent now provides the property with main-pressure hot water, as well as under-floor heating throughout.
As the property is within a conversation area, Mike had to obtain planning consent to mount the panels on the roof, although permission was granted within a couple of weeks of submitting with no real issues. Although planning permission is not necessarily needed, Green Heart would always advise customers to call their local planning office prior to installation, after all a telephone call is cheaper and easier that removing the solar collectors once fitted!Mike purchased the property 2 years ago, and little had been changed for nearly 50 years. When he got the keys, the only heating in the property were the open fires as the old gas boiler had been decommissioned. In order to make it more habitable, Mike lifted up the floorboards and retrofitted under-floor heating, which was not an easy task, but one he now has the enjoyment of.
