Gledhill Torrent RE Thermal Store
Gledhill Torrent RE Thermal Store

An advanced thermal store such as the Gledhill Torrent RE is essential because it provides both hot water and heating assist to the home as opposed to a conventional secondary storage cylinder that delivers hot water only.

The use of the Torrent RE gives all the benefits of mains pressure hot water - powerful showers and fast filling baths - eliminating at the same time the need for pipes, tanks and possibly pumps in the loft space. The advanced thermal store becomes the heart and brains of the solar system with energy going into the store from the energy generators - boilers or solar collectors - as well as providing energy to the heating system and domestic hot water.

The Gledhill Torrent RE is open vented meaning it does not require annual services which can cost hundreds of pounds, as is the case with pressurised systems.

The Torrent can accept feeds from various heat sources, including your current gas boiler. By linking it to your central heating, you are ensuring that you are maximising the efficiency of renewable heat sources.

The most effective way to use alternative/ renewable energies is to integrate as part of a total system in conjunction with a thermal store and a complete management system. By incorporating accurate digital sensors and advanced control programmes, you are optimising the energy usage of renewables and minimising the use of the conventional boiler.

The wall-mounted Torrent Solar Management Unit incorporates state-of-the-art microprocessor technology and a dedicated software programme that enable the thermal store to become the heart and brains of a solar installation, ensuring maximum use of the renewable energy source.

Long Life:

The thermal store is manufactured from copper sheet to BSEN 1653:1998, The computer designed heat exchangers are produced from finned tube and incorporate a patented expansion chamber which is sealed for life. The units are tested hydraulically and pneumatically both during and after manufacture.

Low cost maintenance:

The Torrent Solar can be fitted to existing systems, including the existing boiler and controls, where appropriate. Unlike unvented cylinders, the Torrent does not require expensive safety controls of the need to plumb temperature and pressure relief pipework to outside. External expansion vessels are not required and wiring is the same as any traditional Y,S,W plan system. The Torrent thermal store does not require any annual maintenance

Thermally advanced:

It is not widely appreciated that uncased foam insulated cylinders can lose up to 40% of their insulation value within weeks of manufacture and can emit dangerous smoke if involved in a fire. The Torrent uses safe, non-toxic, non-combustible Rockwool for continuous high performance during the life of the unit. There is no release of ozone depleting substances or harmful emissions.

Cold and hot water distribution design:

The Torrent Solar is designed to be fed directly from the mains. They fulfill the requirements of the Water Regulations and therefore do not require a check valve to be fitted to the supply pipe. The performance is directly related to the adequacy of the cold supply to the dwelling. This must be capable of providing for those services which could be required simultaneously and the maximum demand should be calculated. The Torrent Solar will operate at dynamic pressures as low as 1.5 bar (at the appliance) which must be available when local demand is at its maximum, but the preferred range is between 2 and 3.5 bar. As a general guideline, although 15mm external service may be sufficient for a smaller dwelling with one bathroom, a 22mm service is preferred (25mm MDPE) and should be the minimum for larger dwelling. An in-line scale inhibitor should be fitted in hard water areas.
